How about a surprise 81st birthday party? Maybe a trip to a family-oriented vacation spot nearby and have her family meet her there by surprise. You pay for or arrange what you can to help the family. If some need travel expenses, pay for them.

I saw someone do this for a family member at Disney World. Started out as a fun trip for a small group of family. Turned amazing when the rest of the family showed up. The person cried. It was a wonderful surprise.

You don't have to get that elaborate or go that far. It could be meeting at a restaurant in her home town.

I just think she'll enjoy any meetup with her family.
