The Guardian's Homan Square story was huge on the internet -- but not in Chicago media

You could've referenced at least a dozen other news articles that paraphrase the TG article that doesn't mean anything.

Why isn't this story being told by the local press media?

Because the local media goes there whenever there is an evidence show and tell and they probably do other press conferences there when there is a big bust within the specialized divisions that are there.

As neither of us seem to be attorneys, it would be wise for us not to speculate on what someone needs when they are detained or in police custody.

You don't need to be a lawyer... This is a very simple formula:

arrest + incriminating questions = Mirandize and get a lawyer if requested

Arrest + pedigree questions (what's your name, address, social, etc...) = no need for Miranda or a lawyer

Arrest + why did you do it? = needs Miranda/lawyer if requested

Arrest + so did you the game last night? = no need for Miranda or lawyer.

Unlike a precinct, no one taken to Homan Square is said to be booked. Witnesses, suspects or other Chicagoans who end up inside do not appear to have a public, searchable record entered into a database indicating where they are, as happens when someone is booked at a precinct.

I can guarantee if they actually end up booking the person he/she is entered into multiple databases otherwise at arraignment they'd have no clue why that person was there.

The only proof this author gives is from the arrests of the NATO 3 and then extrapolates that to more Chicagoans who are now mysteriously coming out of the woodwork, I was detained illegally there too and I've never been to Chicago! In the NATO 3 incident, at least Church was charged and convicted of making Molotov cocktails to throw during a protest. That would not have happened if the above quote were true. You can definitively say all his arrest paperwork is in the system.

Lawyers and relatives insist there is no way of finding their whereabouts. Those lawyers who have attempted to gain access to Homan Square are most often turned away, even as their clients remain in custody inside.

again, no need for Miranda warning/lawyer present if you're not being questioned on the arrest charges.

As a bonus, somebody else claimed he was assaulted while in custody years ago and that just can't be true. Why didnt he call the ACLU or all the major news networks after getting out with his injuries visible?

Do you know what happens when the prisoner of the arresting officer is abused by said officer or another, or the prisoner hurts himself?

The arresting officer is responsible for the prisoner's safety, if somebody randomly hits my prisoner, or he hurts himself then I am responsible for and if I don't report the officer I get a huge penalty and lose vacation days. If I hurt him, or he hurts himself I still get the punishment and it's even worse if I don't report it. I would imagine CPD has a similar policy regarding prisoner safety.
