Health inspectors of Reddit, what is the single most disgusting thing you’ve seen on the job?

I’m not a health inspector but I can tell a story about a restaurant being filthy.

It was Veterans Day, and seeing as my father is a veteran my family went out to eat at Golden Coral. We get inside and they wouldn’t let us in for a solid half hour, and everyone’s already a great deal annoyed.

We finally get let in and walk to the dishes to start start getting food and the plates are covered in the remains of other people’s food, the forks are covered in rice and other things and the spoons are even worse.

My mother is pissed, my fathers kinda disappointed, my younger brother starts crying because we aren’t going to get to eat somewhere that forgot to wash the dishes, and my older sister is just plain angry.

So we check some other dishes, and it just gets worse and worse. It was disgusting and smelled absolutely terrible. We ended up just walking out after my mother demanded a refund and we haven’t gone back since.

I didn’t mention how I reacted for a specific reason. I was indifferent and didn’t really care, didn’t want to be there in the first place. Why is that important? Because we were digging through the dirty dishes.

It was where everyone put their dishes when they were done, it wasn’t posted anywhere but I assumed it was the dirty ones when I looked to the other side of the buffet and it had clean dishes.

Of course I was an asshole of a child and didn’t want to be there as I mentioned, so I didn’t tell anyone. Ended up ruining Veterans Day and Golden Coral.
