I heard a fact that our IQ scores are greater than our grandparents. Quick question: Do you think we are actually getting smarter as a human race, or we've just learned to think differently?

I've read something similar saying that about the personality preferences and IQ. Is this the same study information regarding the functions and IQ that you have read? Because apparently, there are major problems with that study which are pointed out here on a INTJforum.com thread. Apparently, the original source for the statistics could not be made available by the researcher, and the summary information flat out does not add up.

Additional interesting information, Three I.Q. studies have placed INTPs between 2nd and 6th place out of 16 types. The sources are below:

  • McCaulley, M. H., & Kainz, R. I. (1976). [MBTI and achievement in a Florida middle school.] Unpublished raw data.

  • McCaulley, M. H., & Natter, F. L. (1974). Psychological (Myers-Briggs) type differences in education. In F. L. Natter & S. A. Rollins (Eds.), The governor's task force on disruptive youth: Phase II report. Tallahassee, FL: Office of the Governor.

  • Myers, I. B., & McCaulley, M. H. (1985). Manual: A guide to the development and use of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Palo Alto, CA: Consulting Psychologists Press.

Personally, I’ve read so much bullshit about IQ and have seen so many flawed research methodologies in every field out there that I’m going to hold off on assuming those sources are accurate or valid until I look into them myself since I work with statistics professionally and find problems in research all the time. However, there they are if you or anybody else is interested in them.

Additionally, the correlation between various types of IQs can be summed up in what is known at the g factor which supposedly accounts for around 40-50% of the variation among various major cognitive tasks for individuals. Sure, IQ is hard to measure and there are different types, but when they are referring to IQ in general, they are likely referring to something similar to this “g” concept.
