[Help]Getting a dog.

1. What role is your dog expected to fill and how do you envision your dog fulfilling that role?
I am rather active(jogging & biking mainly) and I would like to have a dog "running next to me".

2. What experience do you have owning dogs? How about training dogs?
I went to the dogschool(is it called like that? where puppies are learning the basics) with the dog of my grandfather. Other than that only walking dogs and petting them.

3.Do you have other pets or are you planning on having other pets?
No.

4.Do you have children or are you planning on having children? Do you often have children as visitors, such as nieces, nephews, cousins, or friends' children?
I don't have children , and neither me nor my girlfriend plan on having some.

5.Do you rent or will you be renting in the future? If so, what breed or weight restrictions are on your lease?
I am living in a house, with a garden, and after moving out I'll move into another house, so that should be fine.

6. What breeds are you interested in and why?
As you may know already I am into huskys, i like the idea oh having a true and loyal companion.

7. Who lives in your household and who will be responsible for taking care of the dog?
That's me, my mother & her new husband. It will be mainly me, in case i am unable to do so, one of them will take the dog for a walk that day.

8. How often do you have visitors to your home?
Hardly ever, and even if, none of them has a problem with dogs.

9. Do you have a preference for rescuing a dog vs. going through a knowledgeable and reputable breeder?
I have been to a few shelters around my region looking for dogs.

10. Do you want a puppy, a young adult (1-3 years), an adult, or a senior? Why?
I would love to seen my dog grow from a puppy to an adult, but i do see the fact that getting an adult might be the better choice.

11. What size dog are you looking for?
Size is not that important to me, but I would like not to have a small dog. Around 35" would be fine.

12. How much barking is too much barking?
I don't really have a problem with barking, as long as it's not 24/7 it's fine.

13. How much regular brushing are you willing to do?
Never really thought of it before, but i guess 2 - 3 hours a week are fine.(if not tell me)

14. How much shedding do you think you can handle?
This really isn't a problem for me.

15. Are you open to trimming your dog's hair, cleaning ears, clipping nails, or doing other grooming at home? If not, would you be willing to pay a professional to do it regularly?
I am definitely ready to pay a professional for that.

16. How do you feel about slobber? What about farts?
I don't think farting would be much of a problem.
As long as it's not too much slobber, it should be fine

17. How eager-to-please or independent do you want your dog to be?
It's fine as long as he somewhat listens to me, like telling him to stop something shouldn't motivate him...

18. What sorts of training do you want your adult dog to have?
Not much more than "sit", "stay", and "down".

19. Is there any behavior you can’t accommodate?
No not really, i don't want him to completly loose his mind everytime there is another dog but besides that.

20. How important is being able to let your dog roam off-leash in an unfenced area?
It's not much about me, but I guess the dog enjoys being without a leash aswell, so I would like being able to do so for his good

*21. How long can you exercise your dog each day, on average? What kinds of exercise are you planning to give your dog regularly? *
Around 1-1.5 hours a day, on the weekend more of course.
Activities are probably going to be jogging & bicycling.

23. Where will the dog be kept when alone and where will the dog sleep?
When being alone during the day, he has the whole house, and there is a exit into our garden aswell. I planned for the dog to sleep next to my room(there are no doors inbetween), in case he prefers to sleep next to me it's fine aswell, sleeping in the same bed as me is fine aslong as he keeps it dry.

24. How often and for how long will the dog be left alone?
around 3-4 hours, maybe 5 but that should not be the case regularly.

25. If needed, could you hire a dog walker, pay for doggy day care, or come home during lunch to take care of your dog?
Yea this should not be much of a problem, my grandmother is living next to me.

26. What is the general location in which you live?
I am living a small Village in Austria, with a small lake, so pretty much everything a dog can wish for. There are no breed-specific legislation, as far as i know.

27. What is the average temperature of a typical summer day where you live? A typical winter day?
A summer day may go up to 30°C(86°Fahrenheit), and a cold winterday might reach -15°C(5°Fahrenheit)

28. On a scale of 1 to 10, how prepared are you to care for a dog and prioritize its well-being over your career, entertainment, or other life choices for the next 12 or more years?
I recently started working in a company and looks like i will stay there for a very long time, and I am in fact ready to turn down a promotion if that means loosing time for my dog.

29. Are you aware of the costs associated with dog ownership on an average annual basis? Have you budgeted for additional emergency veterinary care and/or pet insurance?
Yea, the money should not be a problem.
