helpful "Should I post my story?" flow chart

Back in the 80’s I shared an apt with a co-worker. The apt complex was brand new and we were the first occupants of the apt. It was really nice and faced the woods.

So one afternoon we are preparing dinner together for guests coming over that night. We were standing side by side and faced towards my bedroom with the door open. Back in those days everyone had a landline/phone and I had a phone on the nightstand beside my bed.

So we are chopping and prepping everything when the phone rang and as you do, you raise your head and look up from whatever you are doing, and what we saw amazes us to this day. When we looked up, the receiver/handle of the phone SLOWLY lifted up into the air, approximately 10” off the cradle, then SLOWLY lowers itself back onto the cradle hanging up on whoever was calling. When it hung up both our heads swung towards one another, our eyes were huge and in complete shock, one of us said “did you see that!?” Then the phone rang again. My roommate answered it and her sister asked “why did you hang up on me?” So not in our imagination. No drugs, middle of the afternoon. We have zero explanation for what happened and it never happened again. 35-40 yrs later and I can remember it like it happened yesterday.

We had one other minor thing that happened, more puzzled us that shocked us. We were washing clothes and the washing machine quit working. So we both go in the room, again middle of the day, and we start checking the machine over to see if we could get it started again. The first thing u do is open the lid to make sure it had been operating in the first place. Yes it had water in it and yes the clothes had been swished around. We close the lid and moved the dial to see if it would start in another cycle. No. We checked the plug, pulled in out and back in, tried the dial again, nothing. Then we checked the breaker box, turned the breaker off then back on, checked the dial and nothing. Since we were the first ppl in the apt, the washer was brand new so couldnt have been anything really wrong with it so we called the number on the front of the machine that we were told we had to call, we turned the dial to “off” and we rung the water out of the clothes and put them in the dryer. No big deal. We go about our business for the rest of the afternoon and later that night we are watching a show on tv. Then the washer turned on. We looked at each other like wtf? Got up and walked it and sure enough, it is working fine. I cannot remember if it started mid-cycle or if it was at the beginning but we both know for a fact that it was set in the off position and had turned itself on. We called and cancelled the repair call and it worked perfectly fine the entire time we lived there.

We thought it was really cool and wished we had some other things happen but no.
