HHH has changed his tune on the indies

I don't think it was the first generation of former ROH guys that changed his mind. Punk and Bryan were always branded as outsiders in the minds of fans. I think that hurt them with management in a way. Punk spent so much time pointing out he was a Heyman guy in 2006 and that without Paul he would've been fired. Bryan spent so much time pointing out how he wasn't a stereotypical WWE guy and calling John Cena a parody, and that he's a better "wrestler". The reality is, they were WWE guys. CM Punk was giving a 434 day title reign, headlining shows with matches against John Cena, Undertaker and The Rock. Daniel Bryan has one every belt in the company and pinned John Cena at Summerslam basically clean, and Randy Orton was booked to not be able to beat Bryan without loads of help and conspiracy.

I think it was Seth Rollins and Ambrose who helped change Triple H's mind, because they were very quick to brand themselves as WWE guys. So instead of thinking they're always going to pick up guys who's going to repeatedly feel the need to fight the system, now they've seen how quickly guys are willing to fit the WWE brand. Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Adrian Neville, Hideo Itami, and Finn Balor came in with extensive backgrounds but had no problem removing their mask, or changing their name. Hideo didn't bitch about not being able to use the GTS or Flying Knee. They didn't complain about going down to NXT as "development" talent. In return WWE has pushed them as important talent.

Honestly, Sting even might have played a part in changing how they view working with established talent. He came in and worked the gimmick they wanted him to, being rebranded "The Vigilante", he worked the match they wanted him too. Nothing about his run indicated that he was disagreeable to work with WWE. I think that may have helped open the door for Joe. Joe has a history that you can't ignore. Every one knows he was a TNA guy, but he's coming in with the mindstate that he's a WWE guy now, and he's had no problem doing in the WWE way at having a run in NXT first.
