"Holmes, my bedroom is at your disposal"

Jackson had this weird paternal ideal with the Indians. He respected them as a people and saw him as some sort of weird father figure for the Indians. Part of his reasoning of removing Indians was that he knew they would stay and white settlers wouldn't stop attacking them and trying to take their land. He figured it was better for them if they were moved to a safer place. Now of course this kinda reeks of racist rationalizing much like the "paternalism" idea many slaveowners had, but at least he seems to have not hated Indians as a principle. He was still a huge douche that disregarded the rule of law and committed atrocities, so I dunno if that really means much in the grand scheme of things.
