Weimar Republic represents the share fragility of democracy. Many Germans at the time were starving unemployed, their savings had all but vanished, and at the worst moment, the government 'technocrats' pushed through harsh austerity measures that cut wages and welfare benefits.

It becomes dangerous when politicians isolate themselves from the plight of their people. Trump was the monster that was created by decades of politicians patting themselves on the back about globalisation while people in rural communities and industrial centres saw once thriving industries vanish overnight.

Eventually, hopelessness and despair can manifest itself into hatred and anger. Trump and Brexit are dangerous because they can't, and won't, deliver what they promised.
