I hope I'm asking this the correct way: what is your opinion on those who discriminate against LGBT rights for religious reasons vs atheists who discriminate members of the LGBT community?

I totally get the backlash against the "everything offends me" SJW culture. I don't even disagree with it.

I'm talking more about things like the sticky post on the_donald that expressly stated that just because Donald Trump supports trans rights and was against HB2, the sub does not agree with all of his views. That is the only post on that sub I am aware of that is not exclusively supportive of Trump. The comments under that post IIRC show that the majority of users did not agree with Trump's support of trans people.

The standard belief among the New Right online seems to be that trans people are mentally ill, and acknowledging their trans status in any way or giving them rights is only enabling mental illness and should be stopped. This was a viewpoint championed by comedian Gavin McGinnes in a column he wrote in 2013. He just did an AMA on that sub and is generally heralded as a hero amongst those other anti-SJW subs.

My observation is that many people are hiding explicitly anti-trans views under the guise of "we're just mocking outrage culture". There is a very clear difference between the two. The second is actually supportive because it makes fun of people who are trivializing LGBT issues by trying to gain attention for themselves. The first is straight up mocking people for being LGBT, whether or not they are authentic, and that's what I am seeing growing on reddit in certain areas.

I think I agree with some of the responses here to my post that these exclusionary attitudes towards the LGBT community are rooted in the Abrahamic religions that continue to influence the beliefs of people who are atheists but we're raised in Abrahamic cultures.
