How are the ottawa pmqs?

Surprised to see some posts saying there's a wait-list, I moved out at the beginning of 2016 and it was mostly still a ghost town. My experience living there for a few years:

  • Rent price is great compared to the rest of the city. Especially now.
  • The surrounding area is kinda crappy, but the pmq area itself always felt secure.
  • No Canex or anything nearby, unfortunately. There was a small Pronto store at one point, but they got rid of it.
  • The quality of my Q was pretty low (peeling paint, 70's kitchen and bathroom, ancient linoleum floors), but it was one of the non-renovated ones. I've heard the new ones are a lot better.
  • Never liked the big SELF HELP HOUSING sign when driving into the area, always wished they would just call it Canadian Forces Housing or something.
  • CFHA can be annoying, at least while I was there. They loved to drive around and look for things to write warning notices for. I never really had any problems, but I knew a few people that had long-running feuds with them. They also tried to pull that $300 cleaner thing when I cleared out, but I think they all do that.
