I don’t really check. It’s usually obvious. But, I’ll try and explain.

To me smart isn’t what people think it is. It’s like a tree. Everyone’s roots work. They go in the ground and pull up what you need.

But some people. Some people’s roots go way down and spread farther and they connect with things that others do not.

I frequently find myself among people who don’t necessarily get it. They’re not stupid. They’re actually pretty bright. We just don’t see eye to eye and the world looks differently to them.

That’s ok. The people you would call smart usually march to their own rhythm and know things about the world that others do not.

And I don’t mean things you can learn from a book. I mean they get things. Just so. And if I am humble enough and a diligent listener I am fortunate to learn from them.
