The most impressive thing that I built was a digital checksheet program for one of our manufacturing line using Excel and the built-in VBA. It did everything that the project needed. Data validation, saving the sheets with unique names, recording and tracking serial numbers, and even had basic charting to determine whether something was in spec but slowly headed out.

It was supposed to last six months before a "real" program was brought in.

Seven years later, they finally brought in a new program that did everything mine did, but it cost around $75,000 - 100,000. They're still struggling with the new program, and the operators on line are always complaining that they liked the old one (mine) better.
