How do I discretely buy outfit at kohls while presenting male?

I'm not saying you might not have a poor experience at any given store; but in general people who work at Kohl's, Target, Wal-Mart, or almost any other retail store simply do not care who comes in and buys what.

They have way too much other things on their mind such as when their lunch or break will be, what they are doing for lunch/dinner that night, what their SO said to them last night, and so on. They really could care less what you are/aren't buying.

Your money is no different than mine or anyone else's and these stores want that money so go in and shop as you see fit. If you have anything less than a pleasant experience then bring it up to management then and there or with their corporate after the fact. If you don't want to do that then simply leave and go elsewhere - somebody will want your money.

And I hate to disagree with people, but frankly I strongly advise against what /u/zmenajedobra said. Saying things like "it's for my wife/girl friend/etc" or "I lost a bet" or any of the other things that I see floating around these threads in general only serves to call attention to yourself. It's really none of their business why you are buying whatever and all you serve to do is to make them care.

One other note, I often see people advocating shopping late at night when it's slow and/or using self checkouts. Generally late at night, it's slower so the cashier(s) will have more time to pay attention to what you are buying and often there is more staff floating around stocking/etc. During the day - especially at places like Wal-Mart, the cashiers are generally busier and floor staff is often harder to come by and with more customers floating around they've got more to keep them occupied. I always recommend to avoid self-checkouts, especially if buying makeup, as while they've gotten better, many of them often have trouble picking up the barcodes on smaller makeup items and you'll often find yourself with an overly helpful attendant at your side. Instead, normally I recommend finding a young (preferably female) cashier as younger cashiers tend to be faster and female things are second nature to them so they tend to scrutinize them less.

Everybody's experiences and advice is going to be different, these are just my opinions from the time I've spent in retail and the shopping I've done since I chose to transition.
