How easy is it to get around without a car?

True. I’ve only ever lived in NYC in the states and then various European cities, so my frame of reference for different US cities is very small. I wish I could say I’d miss it here when I leave, but I don’t think I’ve ever felt less comfortable or safe anywhere. Had an incident in my first month or living here as well where a guy came flying up to a flashing red light. I was crossing as a pedestrian. He was going so fast I didn’t think he’d stop, so I quickly backed up onto the sidewalk. He slammed on the brakes and waved me forward. As I gave the courtesy wave and began to cross, he floored the gas and veered right to try to hit me. He only grazed me and sped off, a nice family stopped to help me, police came, told me there was nothing they could do if I didn’t get a license plate. “Be more careful next time.” I don’t know how anyone lives here and feels normal. It’s been a very bad year and I look forward to putting this place in the metaphorical rearview.
