How many of you were raised in extremely religious families? (Discussion)

I was raised very religiously. Big family-lots of kids. Not quite the "have unprotected sex constantly and have as many kids as you physically can" type, but I'm one of 5 and my 2 aunts had 5. And now most of my 10 cousins have 2+ kids.

My mom never really pushed kids because I think we all assumed and accepted the "life script" of "grow up, get married, make babies." My mom didn't care about college for us girls as long as we knew how to take care of a household. It was very '50s. Kinda scary looking back. (This was only in the 90s)

I only figured out my CF choice last year really. My boyfriend that I live with just had a vasectomy last month. I've been on birth control for almost 2 years but he knows I'm adamantly against abortion* (I guess some religious feelings have always lingered, I'm not sure) so he had the surgery to be careful.

My mom pushed back for a while. She pulled the usual bingo lingo, mostly with "it's different when they're yours" and "you'll change your mind" and "but you're so good with kids!" (Yeah mom, because I'm a good actress and I need the money nannying provides.)

I believed for a while the "it's different when they're yours"... But just like my new realization that if I don't like onions, I can order my food without them...if I don't like kids, I can live my life without them. It's been a big year for me, clearly.

*I'm against abortion for frivolous reasons, like "oops, got drunk and 'accidentally' had a one night stand and now I'm 6 months pregnant, teehee! Don't worry, I'll just kill it without the poor guy ever knowing!"

Rape cases, I can't speak for. I've never been in the position. I see the side of it not being the baby's fault, but I feel like I'd resent it and it'd really screw me up mentally even if I planned on adoption. But also... Why not automatically take a Plan B pill just in case after being raped? Again, I've never been there.

And obviously, if pregnancy is dangerous and going to hurt mother or baby, that's perfectly reasonable.

But when I was in high school and I did a report on abortion and teaching my fellow students the facts rather than the politics involved, I learned that only 2% of abortions were for medical emergencies and/or rape cases. Which is really really pathetic.

Those are just my views that you probably don't care to read. But yeah.
