How specific is a pre-employment background check?

Lying to a prospective employer is not a good idea. If it comes up, they will know (a) you had the pot, and (b) you lied to them.

I know it wasn't smart but I couldn't NOT tell them. They said if all it was is a drinking in public offense that's no problem. As for getting caught with weed I'm sure that would be over the top.

If it comes up, yes, probably. No one can guess as to what will come up, it depends on what kind of background check they do and how thorough it is. But leaning towards more likely than not.

This is the conundrum. If the offense just comes up with a number, that can be easily cross-referenced and will correlate with my story of drinking. However if the details are included, I'm screwed.

I'm not going to even bother letting them do the background check. How will you manage that?

They are going to email me the background authorization forms tomorrow. If I think just the offense code will come up, I'll take my chances. If the details of me being in possession of weed will be in there, I'm not even going send the forms back because I assume I wouldn't get the job.
