If Martin Luther King Jr were alive today, politicians would denounce him

Here's a bit of trivia for you: Did you know there's more to fear than just fight or flight? Anyone who's almost hit a deer in the middle of the night knows what's coming.

Dr. King spoke of the inaction of the white moderate, the desire to move away from tension, from anxiety, from change. Fear is, and always has been the enemy of progress. Fear tells us that we must move backwards from the light, back into safety, back to the known. Donald Trump sold his followers the lie of the good old days, when America was great, was safe, because admitting that in many ways our nation is stronger than it has ever been, giving them the confidence to accept change, would destroy the conservative brand.

It may be a fact of human nature that we will always be fighting the same battles that both Martin Luther King Jr., and his namesake, fought against in the past. As a species we aspire to comfort, to the absence of anxiety and fear, to the protection of the status quo. Fight, flight, and freeze is as much a part of who we are as is walking upright, only by fighting against those fears can we move forward.

TL;DR: Feels<Reals
