If someone only got their information from Reddit, what would they think are the biggest problems in the world?

But how do you think that comes across as an argument to others? "Everyone else is doing it" just isn't a reason to do anything, especially not something permanent to someone else with serious risks involved.

Honestly, I think what you've said is a great example of the reason why the conversation gets so heated. It's like all it comes down to is circumcised guys defending their dongs with throwaways like "Works fine! Mine's all good!". So when someone pops up saying "Why the fuck are we doing this? Have you seen how the glans penis can necrose from botched application of very common circumcision instruments?" the circumcised folks react to it as an absurdity because it doesn't relate to their personal experience of the same procedure. It strikes me as an absence of intellectual integrity.

I appreciate your sentiment that you're glad they did it. That's fine and it's not my business. I also agree that we should be civil but if that's going to be the case then we'll have to promise to be intellectually honest with each other. I also agree with the sentiment that people running around bluntly calling others "mutilated" for having been circumcised are being a bit rude, but, I entirely reject that people saying so in a personal or aggressive manner is some kind of major characteristic of this debate. Reflecting on analogies makes the word "mutilation" seem quite apt.

That's a bunch of shit that's been said a million times before but it's still all sensible.
