Sad how I know this: (Virginia):

1. Illegal to pause at a break in the median.
2. If the tangent turns are feeding into the direction the bus is traveling, you violated the school bus law.
3. Some states have video cameras that START recording the moment those flashing red lights come on, not when that stop sign flips from the drivers side! (a $250 citation in Montgomery Co MD)
4. Wait the three minutes people! Just to play it safe.

Also, not a bus driver, but at that intersection I would park the bus to block the opposing side from making a tangential turn. But, that may leave the kids vulnerable by making them cross another lane of traffic…..
