I'm 30, male, and have worked my whole life to provide for a family.

  • No guarantee that you'll make it until you're 55 and certainly no guarantee that you'll make it until 73 to see even your first child to adulthood.
  • No guarantee that you'll actually be financially comfortable to support a family in retirement. It's actually easier to get health insurance as an employed adult than to buy it for a family as a retiree.
  • It is highly unlikely you will be as active and engaged a parent as an older adult. It's not guaranteed but most people become more calcified in their ways as they age. Young children need flexible and energetic parents.
  • No guarantee you'll find a younger partner who'll want to parent with you. It's a raw deal for them as they'll likely be parenting solo as children get older and/or signing up to take care of an aging partner.
