Indigenous group submits application to rename Calgary

"Times were good in the old days"...

I do not want to disrespect the elder BUT saying that "times were good in the old days" is one of the biggest fallacy that people still spew out without really thinking about it...

  • In the "old days", human rights were not a concern, people had the right to shut the hell up and to work 60 hours a week, 6 days a week for almost no pay.

  • In the "old days" people would routinely die of the flu.

  • In the "old days", women would routinely die in childbirth and many kids would die within a week of being born.

  • In the "old days", people lived while being infected by parasites...

  • In the "old days", wars, even "Indian wars" killed a significant percentage of the population and people thought it was normal.

  • In the "old days", people were born in a village and were expected to spend their entire lives there and to never see the rest of the world.

  • In the "old days", people were taken advantage of because they could not read or count... Savvier people would take them to the cleaners and no comprehensive justice system could help the victims.

I'll stop here... But please stop reminiscing about the "old days" like they were something beautiful, they WEREN'T !
