You know,I'm a brown immigrant to the US,I wasn't born a Muslim and I'm an atheist by choice.

He's not totally wrong. Please allow me to explain before you downvote me to hell.

There's a couple of factors at play here.

Firstly,due to America's location,its not possible to jump on a boat and get here. Unlike what's happening with you folks in Europe. Our illegal immigrants happen to be Mexican folk. They generally tend to be family men,very hard working and not prone to religious fanaticism. Even though they tend to be not very well educated or wealthy.

Second,the US has tough immigration rules which means only mostly well educated immigrants can get in legally.

And thirdly,I think the difference boils down to how Western civilization has developed in Europe and the US.

Both cultures are very welcoming of immigrants,as wealthy civilized societies should be.

In Europe you welcome immigrants,but once in (due to the European culture of non interference) they are left free to do what they want and live where they want. This is beautiful when it comes to people that are willing to integrate.

But if someone isn't willing to assimilate,they simply switch to the default mode of what they believed in and practiced at home. They gather together with others like them and refuse to integrate with western culture.

The US also welcomes immigrants with open arms. The difference is once you immigrate,you are automatically an American first. The race,color,religion or country of origin of the immigrant are all secondary. There is a strong emphasis to integrate and identify with the American way of life. If you refuse to integrate,you will not be successful in America.

I think this does work for the US. The people that own homes in my neighborhood include a German family,a Thai family,a Brazilian family,couple of African families,a white family and an African American family. We are all friendly with each other and consider ourselves Americans first. We all celebrate American holidays as well as festivals and holidays unique to our individual cultures.

Most legal immigrants tend to do well because of this friendliness and acceptance. This includes all immigrants,including Muslims.
