Wow! That would be such a departure from everything pre-Secret Wars. From an old codger who read these as they were "happening":

I forget the details, but once this was revealed to him, when he met his dad, he wasn't interested in assuming his rightful place in court. In the first book I read that featured Star Lord, he had a pretty cool gun that could fire a variety of things, he could fly, was a pretty decent hand-to-hand combatant (fast and strong), and could fence, amongst other things. He also had a sentient ship that could shape-change. He disappeared for a while (in the comic books) and when I first read of him again was during Annihilation, when, some time during the interval, he had become disillusioned and wasn't the person he used to be. He also no longer had the sentient ship.
From what I recall of Starhawk, when he first appeared, he had some sort of cosmic sense, and would always say something along the line of, "trust The One Who Knows", referring to himself. At first it was his secret that he would switch bodies or something, and become a woman. Again, I forget the details, but it was hinted at the he and she had been husband and wife, or something, and that something Starhawk had done had resulted in their children being killed, as well as the two of them sharing the same form.
The Guardians of the Galaxy that I was familiar with were:
Vance Astro - centuries old astronaut trapped in a suit outisde which he'd instantly age (or so he thought), who had telekinetic abilities.
Martinex: crystaline human variant born on Pluto.
Charlie 27: super strong and dense human variant born on Jupiter.
Yondu - alien archer from some distant world. I think the concept was alien equivalents of Native Americans, or the kinda racist "noble savage" premise.
Nikki: human variant born on Venus
They all came together to fight the Badoon, aliens who had taken over our solar system, as well as Yondu's world.
