I mean, sure, you can look at it that way. But consider he’s basically the only source of comic relief in the film outside of Darcy. And he’s usually the butt of the joke because he doesn’t have his powers/ignorance. He gets drunk with Jane’s dad. Falls in love with a girl he’s known for a week. He’s a buffoon.

Idk. Never once in any iteration of MCU Thor have I thought he is a serious, no nonsense character. They gave that to Cap in his first movie and it’s obvious. With Thor they wanted him to be a quippy action hero like Iron Man and the only thing that saved the character is the fact Hemsworth actually has range as an actor.

My point is by the time Waititi got ahold of Thor his character was already a joke.
