IWTL enough programming to be able to get a job ( from scratch )

Just general advice.

IDK about what language you will chose but learn a lot of math, I mean real math with good understanding not just some formulas(because just formulas will make you hate it).
I had one guy who teaches programming at some college saying to me "A good mathematician can always be a decent programmer, but someone who don't know math will hardly even reach the level where he call himself a programmer."

Math gets interesting when you go deeper and learn more ( I hated it during High school). Check my post here, Lang's book is very good start

And yeah, don't make the mistake to waste 4 or 5 years "studying" something you are not interested in.
First, I made this mistake. Do not recommend.
Second, programming and math are time consuming. You can stay on the same two pages from your book for days till you understand what the hell is going. I don't say that to intimidate you but because is good to know that sometimes you will need time.
