A Japanese Company Wants to Build a Space Elevator by 2050

A company like this saying they want to do something by the year 2050 (34 years from now), is as utterly POINTLESS.

It's kinda like a company in the year 1940 boasting that they will build the world's largest electro-mechanical-vacuum-tube computer by the year 1974, when such a project would be rendered obsolete by much newer, more advanced, and cheaper electronic-integrated-circuit technology.

And since technology is growing exponentially, then we can be nearly certain that 34 years from now might realistically be like a hundred years of difference, from our current levels of technology.

FINALLY... saying you will achieve something by 2050 is a form of false/empty boasting, since most people aren't even go to hold you to it when they year 2050 comes around and you haven't achieved it like you promised you would (if anyone even remembers that you boasted 34 years ago...).

In short I am always leery of politicians, and companies that boast proudly that they will create a certain product/achievement decades into the future... for some reason it just triggers feelings in me of strong irritation towards them!
