Key 'addicted to immigration': Peters

And all the while the left are also screaming out to double our refugee quota, the majority of refugees live in HNZ houses and the majority of them in Nelson/marlborugh and Palmy north. Surely we should focus on spending money and housing our own citizens before we take in refugees. Whatever happened to selecting immigrants who had skills NZ was short of? Seems that now we are importing unskilled workers for low paid jobs, because our workers are "pretty damned hopeless". Investing in education would be a better place to start, and ensuring pay and conditions are reasonable would a good follow-up.Whatever happened to selecting immigrants who had skills NZ was short of? When some one comes from a country with a much lower standard of living than we are used to, they are happy to work for minimum NZ wage and have 10 or 12 people living in a single house. Many NZ employers would be very happy if the Kiwi's would settle for that sort of crap as well. High rates of immigration, or large populations are not needed for economic prosperity. Many small European countries are wealthy in per capita terms, and wage levels. Many large countries are not. High rates of immigration do more harm than good by straining infrastructure, social values, and leading to distorted growth of Auckland. We are currently averageing 180 new cars a week on Auckland roads... I wonder if there is a reason why we are not told just how many HNZ houses are occupied by refugees and how long do end up living in there.
