this kid my best friend and i knew in high school tried to get in touch with her. she told him she knows what he did to another girl we knew. he said it’s in the past because he went on a mission. this was my best friend’s response. god, i love her.

I resonate with this post on a very personal level.

Speaking from personal experience, Mormon boys can be creeps, perverts, bullies and absolute psychopaths without anyone batting an eyelid about it when it happens. They can publicly humiliate and openly ridicule girls in their church groups and school classes and never pay for it. They can drive someone to multiple suicide attempts for their own amusement and their community will pat them on the back for being such rascals.

Then, when they're old enough that it's not so "cute" anymore, or once they have their own daughters and think about what THEY did at her age, they pull this "it's in the past" stunt or pull out some crocodile tears for people who are already complicit in enabling their behavior. And Mormon girls are supposed to automatically hand them forgiveness.

Women take the bullying and then we have to deliver the amends too. No thanks. Not now. Not ever.

There's an entire varsity sports team from my mostly-mormon school that I would not rescue if I ever saw them drowning. I'd pull out a bowl of popcorn and watch.
