Have you learned something shocking about your family using one of those DNA analysis sites?

I am the youngest grandchild in a while family. Last year, my grandfather (who’s had health problems for 5+ years now) finally was moved into a long-term care facility. It dawned on me that I knew almost nothing about his family and their origins.

I sent my spit off to 23 and Me and was shocked when it came back ~10% sub-Saharan African. After some careful digging through census records and others, I have deduced that my grandfather was ¼ black which would make me 1/16!!

Not entirely life changing nor do I identify as a black woman since I pass as completely white, but it does interest me to know that we all come from the same place though we look so different.
