Just so he could go back to being treated like a house plant? Why waste the time, is probably what he figured. Do not wait until someone is dead to give them an eulogy. Kind of a bit late, don't you think. I remember when a group of kids died in a car accident back in HS. Everyone was wearing arm bands with their names for weeks after. Arm bands? To have stopped them from getting into a car while drunk and stoned, regardless of how uncool it made you look, would have been a true gesture that you cared. But arm bands are just pointless symbols best left to the symbol-minded.
