Looking to start med school after 30

There are many reasons not to go to medical school - the expense, the stress, the work load, the burden your family will have to shoulder as you will be away working/studying for much of the next 8 (four years of medical school + residency - am not even considering time for fellowships or the time needed in undergrad to get medical school ready) years. There is really one reason to go to medical school - it is the right thing for you. You have only offered one reason why you think this is a good choice for you ie to "mature" an area of medicine. Is this enough to get you through the work/stress/expensive of studying medicine? Do you enjoy medicine? I advise you to do some clinical electives so see if you actually enjoy the work. If you don't then there are many areas of medicine that don't require a medical degree eg we have medical physicists that work closely with my department, there are also statisticians, and researchers, computer specialists etc. If you do enjoy medicine then remember this: in four years you will still be four years older so why not spend that time following your heart?

TL:DR do what is right for YOU and good luck/best wishes no matter what you choose
