LPT: Bring a Ethernet cable with you when you travel for work.

I worked many travel jobs with 90-100% on the road, but travel alot less now(about 50%). All of my jobs have been in IT supporting customer install/service/support. Travel jobs are fairly easy to find, but finding a company that will take care of you(putting you up in nicer hotels, always flying nonstop, providing Per diem, can be a challenge). If you ever decide to take a road-warrior job, here's a few tips: 1) Does the company provide you with a company card? Is it under the company or as your own credit card? Who pays the bill? Can i use my own credit cards? 2) If you can use your own CC's, then sign up for all of the major hotel brands. Yearly fee on those cards(hyatt, marriott) are around $100 and include one free night per year. 3) Find out how long reimbursement takes. One job i worked, it took 4 months to get my first reimbursement check. I max'd out 2 credit cards at nearly 30k. 4) Sign up for Global Entry. Its around $100 and will make your life much easier. Global Entry includes TSA-Pre, which puts you in the shorter lines during screening. Its pretty cool seeing your favorite DJ sitting in a corner with audio gear out making beats in the Miami AA Club. 5) If your job has you passing thru an airport 3-4 times a week, sign up for an airport club, such as AA.com Admirals Club. I've meet some interesting people in those clubs. Junk food and drinks are free in those clubs. Specialty food and drinks are paid. Some clubs have showers in them. 6) Pick a hotel chain or two and become loyal. Hyatt, for example, provides free breakfast for up to four people when you hit Diamond Status(50 nights). You'll get the nicer rooms as well. 7) Don't tell anyone about all of your hotel/airline points. Family, friends, customers will ask to use your hotel points. Just say all the points go directly to the company. 8) You should be making more than your coworkers who are always working out the office and never traveling. If your not, find a new job. 8) If a company is putting you up in Motel 6's or Holiday Inns, find a new job.
