LPT: Test your 'findmyphone' GPS functionality BEFORE you actually lose your phone to make sure its setup correctly.

Nobody will see this but I had an interesting experience with the 'where's my phone' service Google offers.

3 summers ago I was partying with my brother at his apartment drinking on his 2nd floor balcony. At about 3 am he went to bed and we decided to hit the convenience store next to his place. Well some asshole climbed up the balcony and stole my phone and went into the house. My brother woke up bur being wasted himself just was like wtf who are you get out and that was that. Aparantly before he hit our balcony he broke into the house across the street and the residents were freaked out and I went to call the cops... that's when I realized he stole my phone. Eventually the cops do show up and we tell the cops and he takes statements and we go back inside fully expecting that my phone is gone forever.

Then it hit me! I go and Google where is my phone and holy shit, only 3-4 blocks away. I run outside, I'm wasted too it's 4 am at this point and I go up to the cop and I probably sound like a crazy person telling this old cop how I can track the guy through the internet. Eventually he's buys in and comes inside my brothers apartment and he's fucking amazed. We're sitting there watching my phone while he's directing other officers to the moving location. I felt like drunken James Bond. Eventually the guy just dropped the phone because when you ping where phone is it tells the phone and makes noises so between that and the growing police presence the guy chucked it in the grass. The police never cough the guy but I got my phone back.

TL;DR - Phone got stolen during a burglary and I showed a cop and he sat at my brother PC directing other cops to the thief's location and I got my phone back.
