LPT: When a dealership tells you the vehicle is on the lot or will hold the vehicle for you and then tells you it was sold when you get there, leave. They pulled a bait and switch on you.

After weeks of dealing with car dealerships and dealers, I was finally done with my research/haggling and just wanted to get it done.

I called this place and asked about a car they had, which was listed with an "on sale" price at $39,000. They deducted $5,000 for discounts that are very hard to obtain. Someone like me wouldn't be eligible for any of that $5,000. I told the guy I'm not an educator, or a veteran, or a plumber (you need to be all three of those, somehow, to get the full $5k) but I've been looking around, I know what the car is worth and if he can give it to me for $38k I'd be there in 20 minutes and sign the shit and gtfo.

I get there and they start all the paperwork and show me the car I'm buying.

This was not a $44,000 list price car that I was buying for $38,000. This was a $38,000 list price car. At that moment I became irate. I became even angrier when the guy I started arguing with "didn't see the problem", since I wanted to pay $38,000.

I continued to get more and more annoyed while this guy was begging me to buy how downright stupid he'd have to be in order to not see the logic behind what I was saying. As soon as I uttered the words "bait and switch bullshit"....it was like saying "bomb" at an airport. Dude's face went stone cold and he asked me to calm down and he'd see what he could do.

Wound up getting the car I wanted at the price I wanted. Had to jump through 50000000 hoops to get there, even after all of that.

Good lord. Literally, I could not have made it easier on them yet they still want to take advantage. "I will be there in 20 minutes to give you a lot of money and leave asap". Why do you want to bone that guy? So frustrating.
