Do you find (m)any wealthy or financially comfortable people that you know are in denial about their situation?

I finished uni 15 years ago, but I also felt that when I was there, downplaying being middle class - ideally framing yourself as working class - was the thing to do. Made friends with a girl who would go on and on about being WC (she was actually upper middle, imo), but in the same breath we got invited to a party her parents threw to celebrate paying their mortgage off (who does that?!). The property in question was very, very nice indeed, in what's usually considered to be an expensive corner of the country. A big old farmhouse, but the farm itself wasn't in operation any more. Dad was a senior manager at a very well known telecomms company. Mum was educated, but had never had to work. They were mid-50s. How very working class!

The same girl thought Farmfoods was an organic shop, when I mentioned I was going to nip there for some shopping...
