Mark Shuttleworth - I came to be disgusted with the hate on Mir. Really, it changed my opinion of the free software community.

Mir hater reporting in.

I promise you, Mark, it has absolutely nothing to do with popularity, despite how comfortable I'm sure "they hate us because we're so cool and mainstream now!" is for you. Actually, I thought it was awesome that Ubuntu was doing so well at the tail end of the Gnome 2 era, making a great polished distro that was my go-to recommendation for people looking to get into Lignux.

... Then, you fucked it all up, by letting it go to your heads, acting like a proprietary monolith, not cooperating with (and/or actively competing with) the community you sprang from, and so on. Now, here you are, blaming that community for its "irrational hatred", which, of course, must just be because you're so great and popular. How dare they not gratefully accept everything you cram down their throats in your process of gradually dismissing them entirely?!

It's only rational to love Canonical and Ubuntu, no matter what they do, just like it's only rational to respect Windows, and implicitly, anyone who criticizing anything is being irrational.

Yes, well... as you say, fuck that shit.
