Exactly! So many people don’t understand this at all, and simply assume developers are lazy or incompetent.
To give you an example, I worked on a secure app for a uk high street bank - the time spent developing and testing the Android app was over 4 times longer than the iOS version, and yet once it went live usage rates were heavily split in favour of the iOS. Pre release research suggested about a 60/40 split of users would be android over iOS. In reality it’s OVER 80% in favour of iOS.
So they spent 4 times more, to serve a 5 times fewer customers.
Bonus fact - the busiest week of the year for the tech support team is the week of the new iPhone release - this is because it uses a 2fa linked to the registered phone number the first time you install on a new device. When the iPhone comes out people switch contracts and get a new number, effectively locking their app access. This is the same every year. There is no equivalent spike for android releases.
