Did 6.5 yrs as PRes in the CAF. Budget was minimally adequate at best - two neighbouring units would argue over how many personnel from each side would go on an exercise [Unit-A would try to add more of their personnel to a course or exercise over Unit-B).

Equipment is not always well-maintained; was given a container of shit-rifles during a shooting competition by another unit as ours were being used by a course at the time (charred full of cordite; sights poorly maintained and some had broken windage gates; couldn't be adjusted).

Witnessed old brass blow fat gaskets over unissued kit such as carabiner-watches; people having their own olive-drab toques that were more low-profile. One guy had a tacvest of their own that was more functional than the issued ones and an officer went out of their way to find a spare for them during an exercise.
