My (34/m) girlfriend (35/f) is a slob. Kids are slobs. Thinking about "going out for a pack of smokes".

Unfortunately, I don't have anything I could say to help you as I'm in a pretty similar situation. My husband loves STUFF. Like he has hundreds of books he'll never read again and dozens of board games he'll never play, and then he just keeps stuff "just in case I need it someday" even though I explained to him that we don't have the storage to accommodate these things and that's a mindset similar to that of hoarders before they get worse with the hoard. Really hoping to find some sound advice here. I'm very much like you and don't like having a ton of stuff. He doesn't clean anything pretty much ever unless I nag and nag and nag and beg. We've tried chore charts, we've tried apps, we've tried to-do lists, we've tried rewards when xyz is done or qrs is clean for so many days. Nothing helps that I've tried, and he doesn't or won't get that the state the house is constantly in has worn me down so badly over the last six years. I have depression and anxiety and just like you, the severity directly correlates to my surroundings. I feel overwhelmed and defeated all the time. Plus I'm in nursing school so stress is already sky-high, I don't need things like clutter making it worse. I would never, ever, in a million years consider leaving my husband but I need help. We're probably going to go to a marriage counselor in December over it.
