Oh, please. Don't link the "reddiquette". People have used downvotes for years just when they disagree with something, which it also says not to do in the "reddiquette".

And, seriously, how is it not related? It's slightly different but that's how conversations work in real life. You don't stay on track about a specific thing when you talk to people, you change directions and expand the conversation to allow more room for discussion. If everyone on Reddit never changed their discussions AT ALL then it'd be boring and no one would come here. So don't give me that shit.

Also, I didn't even intend for it to be put across maliciously or to purposely ignite an argument. I said it as a light hearted joke (that I obviously knew would be unpopular amongst a mostly American website) that I thought would make people have a bit of a smile or laugh. My edit was even somewhat similar. Again, I knew it wouldn't be popular, but it was a sarcastic jab at "oh u Americans" sort of thing.

If you can't laugh at yourself once in a while then I feel very, very sorry for you. That must be a boring life.
