My first paint job ever: the space marine that comes with the starter magazine

You did good, just focus on those mistakes or anything you personally dont like that you did and try to improve, then you get to find a whole new pile of things you did you dont like and repeat. Keeping your first minis as is like i suggested will give you a great visual reminder of your progress, sometimes when i think im getting nowhere i look at them and become astounded how far much better i got in just a weeks time and then im reinvigorated to complete the next couple hundred dozen models.

Dont get stuck thinking something is out of your skill level, just do them, try your best to replicate the process or figure it out yourself, in most situations its nothing some paint thinner or paint killing equivalent cant erase and you have some practical experience of where you went right or messed up. I cant do plasma worth a shit but i try every time and im almost at the point where the color blend actually blends instead of three glaringly separate blues.
