My guild and its issues? Im seeking advice? Any experienced GM's out there?

I'm going to share with you some things I've come by having co-founded a guild at the beginning of BC with some people I played with in Vanilla.

Our GMs are still there. There are a few, including myself, longstanding veteran officers. At one time, for more than one expansion, I led our progression raid. We are in the top 20-30 in kills and progression on our server horde-side.

You can't make a guild into Method. I don't care how hard you try. You want these people to be something you want to be a part of, and that's never going to happen. If you want to be in Method, get in Method. Otherwise you need to build your own guild. You need to build your officer base. You need to make it a place that your guild members want to be.

I lost a full raid in BC during Kara because I pushed too hard at times, and felt like I needed more control. They felt otherwise, and left in mass. Formed their own guild, made some minor progression, and then failed miserably. They hardly exist anymore except in name. We rebuilt, continued on, and learned that bootheel/ironfist management is bad.

People play to have fun. Sometimes that fun is hardcore progression with 3 hour wipefests on mythics, but if it isn't fun they're not going to stay. You can't just start benching people and telling them they are holding you back and expect them to show up the next day. Why would they want to do that? So you can bench them again? Make them feel bad? Tell them they aren't good enough? You aren't Method. You aren't in a position to tell people that. You need to make it a place and a raid that people want to be a part of. Carry people if you have to. Help them to get better. Don't just demand it of them. I work 50+ hours a week. I've got a family and a dog and other stuff to do than grind wow 8 hours a night when I get home. I still find time to raid, we're 6/10 in BRF and progressing steadily, but first and foremost we have fun.

We've had people come in and try to ninja our core officers, our raid leader, and a lot of raid at times. They won't go. They won't go because they like the guild. It's home to them. We're family. Surprisingly enough we work a lot harder to take care of each other, help people gear up, offer suggestions on specs/class/rotation, craft stuff for each other, enchants, whatever.

You want a guild that wants to knock stuff down and kill things? Build one. You want to lead a hardcore raid where you can kick people because they hold you back? There's LFR for that.

If you get 50% turnout on night 2....well, there's your sign.
