Nasty HR claims “policy” and then it’s used against them

Husband and I changed our surnames to his father's (his mother had given him her ex-husbands last name because she's a loon) and while we were at it he figured he may as well change his first name to the shortened version of his name he'd gone by since he was a kid, since he hated the name his mom made up (added a weird suffix to a common name).

The fallout, holy crap. You'd think we'd told them we'd taken up serial killing as a hobby, not changed our surname. She also still insists on using the long version of the name, no matter how many times he corrects her or tells her it's not legally his name any more. It's just so frustrating that she can't respect her child's very simple request to be called the name he wants.
