New Member / Day 1 Thread

Not really sure if anyone will reply but here goes; Hi, I'm an 18 year old male currently sitting between 185-190lbs at 5'10/5'11. I just wanted to see if anyone had any other advice for when I go to the gym. I understand cardio is a big part of losing weight and its not exactly my favorite thing but its something I have to do if I want to hit my goal weight of 160.

I am a gym noob and was wondering if it's even worth it for me to do basic lifting while I'm trying to lose weight. Of course, I'm sure some wouldn't hurt but I am not sure to what extent I should be doing, nor what exercises/machines. I am also aware that eating right is one of the biggest things but I am not sure what to do as I don't really have any say what I get to eat. (Still living with parents, they do grocery shopping and mostly get junk) Furthermore I have tried losing weight before and got lazy and stopped going to the gym, what can I do to motivate myself some more? Also to stop the impulse late-night eating. To add on to that my first time trying to lose weight my parents insisted that I eat only salad and it quite honestly made me sick (Of just eating only salad that is) and frustrated as I wasn't seeing results with it.

So to sum it up my questions are;

  • What are some good alternatives to straight up running to lose weight?

  • Is it worth lifting weights while trying to lose weight?

  • If yes, what machines/exercises should I be doing/focusing on?

  • What can I do to have a bigger part in what gets bought at the grocery store?

  • What can I do to motivate myself to go every single day and eat right?

  • How can I stop late night impulse-eating when trying to lose weight?

  • What should I be eating? (I know protein like meat is fairly good, but its gotta be plain right?)

Thanks for reading!
