tbh the casual matchmaking update brutally murdered TF2. Jumping on to an official Valve server and playing some badwater was what TF2 was all about. But no, Overwatch came out so let's get some of that casual matchmaking going. Playing a game where the losing team steadily empties out and isn't replaced by new players is just a fucking riot.

I downloaded TF2 again the other week and decided to give it a try again, thought better of it once three guys on the enemy team picked sniper and started aimhacking.

As for the community servers, I don't doubt that they are better than the plate of shit that Valve serves up these days in the form of casual matchmaking, provided that you can find a good one that is actually populated. All I found were a billion fucking servers either filled with bots or with "VIP" packages that give you cheats in exchange for a monthly "donation".
