The Ocean Cleanup celebrates first haul of plastic from the Great Pacific garbage patch

All that for 60 bags of plastic.

The Maersk Launcher ship used to tow the cleanup boom out to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, is a 90 meter, 6798 ton vessel, with 23,500bhp worth of engines that made an approximately 2,400 mile round trip.

Anybody want to do the math on how much petroleum based plastic was pulled out of the water vs. how much petroleum based fuel was burned up and released into the atmosphere?

I feel like this may be a contender for one of the most polluting "green" projects in history.
