Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey, creator of the Oculus Rift, AMA in /r/PCMASTERRACE on January 10th @ 5PM PST (additional time zones in description). He will be here to answer your tough and technical questions.

Hi /u/palmerlucky

I have some pleasant things to say and some harsh things to say.

You sold this crazy idea of VR to the world, and you honestly legitimized VR. I think that is an amazing thing. Nothing I can say will ever let you know just how I feel about your contribution to the world. It's outstanding.

I don't expect you to remember me, but you responded directly to a comment I made when I said that if the Oculus Rift had exclusives, it would be egregious. You promised an open approach then. That's niether here nor there, we already know the approach Oculus took, it's disheartening to be honest, and it makes us question the company. Moving on..

I feel like I can't say this hard enough, this is your time to sell the Rift to us. We want answers that spin is not going to cover. Please be honest with PCMR.

  • 1.) How can you justify the Oculus Rift at 600 USD, when the HTC Vive appears to have a competitive edge on technology and hardware and commitment an open VR toolkit?

  • 2.) I feel very wary of Oculus business practices given the recent debacles, and I'm afraid to buy RIFT due to hmd support for competing devices on a funded game. Many see VR as do or die do it right or don't hurt the industry. Do people within Oculus realize, what a massive blunder it was to fund first party games, without day one support for competing headsets? What is being done to make sure this never happens again? How can you affect this change in your corporate culture?

  • 3.) The moment you ship hardware there will be a tear down and price analysis. Does the Rift's high price tag justify the cost of the components?

  • 4.) With HTC powering the Vive, are you worried that the supply chain and long term partnerships will yield a more cost effective HMD?

  • 5.)What is Oculus prepared to do if Valve's headset is more affordable than your own, assuming that your headset's cost is close to it's price?
