On the internet, over the years, I have seen a fair few 'Irish Monarchists', and, if there are any here, I have a few questions.

  1. I want a monarchy because Ireland has a proud and long tradition of monarchies. Today republics are bland faceless political systems, we as an ancient European nation deserve something more noble and rich than that. A monarch can serve to unite the people of Ireland by its embodiment of the nation, monarchies are also a natural system of government which has developed all over the world independently. I feel a monarchy would be a great thing for Ireland and I would personally be very happy to have one.

  2. I support a constitutional monarchy to some degree. I wish for there to be a parliamentary democracy but I think the monarch should reserve the right to appoint whoever they want as prime minister. But I'd advise the monarchy not to appoint whoever they want unless parliament cannot make a decisive decision during a crisis, e.g. a war threatening Ireland.

  3. I'm not a unionist but I am a bit of an Anglophile at times, but just because I like British culture doesn't mean I want it here. I would support the British monarchy in Ireland on the condition of a united Ireland.

  4. I'd prefer for one of the modern day heads of the old Gaelic clans to become King. Many of these modern day heads are actually nobles in other European countries so they have the right temperament for it and they have a background and an understanding of monarchies, many Irish clans went to the Netherlands and Spain during the Flight of the Earls. I think this would be better than ringing up some average joe and saying "Hi is this Paddy O'Brien? Well it turns out you're the descendant of Brian Boru. Fancy becoming king?"

Any more questions feel free to ask.
