Come on Ireland. Let’s do it. Let’s hear a positive story from someone has about an interaction with travellers?

Worked with a traveller girl, she was dating a settled fella from my areas version of finglas (rough dilapidated shithole) so already shes an outlier.

She was very aggressive threatened to stab my boss when he'd correct her for stuff, threatened half the team with violence. Used tell us how she'd beat the head off her fella, and about getting drunk in town and "swug girls around like cats" if they got smart with her.

She'd never start trouble with anyone, but if she mistook a joke as an insult or mockery she'd threaten you. She was despite all that a very nice girl, and hearing some of the stories she'd tell us would turn your stomach. Violence didn't phase this girl at all it was nothing to her.

I always treated her with respect half out of fear and half out of the fact I actually had quite the liking for her. If she ever heard someone taking the piss out of me or anyone else she liked she'd threaten them at the drop of a hat.

Very nice and intelligent girl who had to deal with some very horrific shit in her life, which is fairly common for traveller girls.

All that being said tho, I still generally dislike travellers because 99% of experiences I've had with them have been rough, not to mention my neighbours dealings with them.

I realise a lot of these people have incredibly hard, violent and short lives that i'll never understand but when they threaten to take your fingers because you called the RSPCA on their horses which they've put in your field without permission it's hard to look past that.
